European premier at the European road transport show 2007
Hytruck C8HE zero emission hydrogen fuel cell hybrid H2E truck for inner city and regional transport with outstanding load and daily operating capability. (Stand No. 03.003 Westhall, Hall 3)
Hytruck is, for the first time, attending the commercial vehicle show at the RAI showing it’s prototype C8HE. The Hytruck C8HE is based upon a market leading chassis from Mitsubishi, the distribution 7.5Ton Canter. The big changes to the truck are to be found in the driveline which has been completely replaced. Items replaced are, engine, gearbox, rear axle and fuel tanks. The new driveline is a zero emission hi-tech H2E system.. The hydrogen, which is stored in a 227 litre Kevlar fuel tank with a mass of 5.8Kg at a pressure of 350 bar, fuels the 16Kw fuel cell. This cell, being the main power-unit providing state of the art patented technology, also charges up the latest generation of lithium-ion phosphate batteries. The batteries provide the current for the electric in-line motors directly fitted to the two rear wheels. When braking the electric motors act as alternators converting the kinetic energy back into electricity stored in the batteries; this allows the driveline to save approx. 70% of the energy than that of the conventional system. Hytruck thus provides an environmentally neutral, no harmful gaseous emissions or particulates; silent distribution truck. The daily operational range is more than 350Km and this coupled with a high payload capacity and beating all environmental demands made by local authorities makes the C8HE a thoroughbred distribution truck.
Partnership
The imaginative and intelligent combining of existing proven
components with cutting edge technologies has created the
Hytruck C8HE. Leading Dutch specialist companies, not just
being suppliers but real partners in the project, have joined
forces and developed this innovative product to realise
the optimal economy. Continuity is assured as the approach
is just the beginning of a wider range of vehicles suitable
for adoption on other makes and chassis types.
New approach
In order to keep distriution transport on the move and at
the same time meeting the increasing demands for a cleaner
and safer transport, requires a new approach. It requires
vision, pioneering spirit and commitment. Hytruck rose to
the challenge taking a broad view to create a solution that
fulfils the needs of both high density inner city and regional
distribution. The Hytruck C8HE zero emission distribution
truck is economic and satisfies virtually all the known
needs. The key needs are, durability, environmentally neutral
and economically. Hytruck has selected the fuel of the future,
hydrogen, using the H2E technology. Hytruck have focused
upon the distribution sector where the demands for clean
air, no NOx, CO2 or particulates, are greatest. This is
especially true in the inner city and regions where the
quality of air is of greatest priority
Concept for the future
Hytruck is more than a truck. It is a vision of innovation
in the road transport business making the bold step to a
new solution, a hydrogen fuel cell future. The possibilities
are far reaching including transportation of people and
goods. Government has a significant role to play in stimulating
the hydrogen economy, especially important is the rapid
build up of the infrastructure, refuelling locations and
a duty level that stimulates the switch to the fuel of the
future, hydrogen. The transport industry also has its responsibility
by making the investments in a cleaner and healthier future.
Hytruck receives financial support from SenterNovem (an agency of the ministry of economic affairs charged with fostering sustainable innovation).
