The Hytruck C8HE has been created by intelligent combining of existing components with Hi-tech techniques upon a well established platform. The resulting product is just the start of a series that will include many differing makes and models.The C8HE is based upon a conventional chassis of the Mitsubishi Canter 7.5ton distribution vehicle. The Hytruck C8HED means the conversion of an existing successful truck by replacing the existing drive line, i.e. removal of diesel motor, gearbox, differential and fuel tanks, with a completely new concept drive line, the Hytruck H2E driveline. It provides fuel cells mounted under the cab producing 16 Kw, that draw hydrogen from the 227 litre fuel tank containing 5.8 Kg of hydrogen at a pressure of 350 bar.

The energy from the fuel cells is transferred to the batteries that are mounted where the diesel fuel tanks were.This cell, being the main power-unit providing state of the art patented technology, also charge up the latest generation of lithium-ion phosphate batteries. The batteries provide the motive power for the electric in-line motors directly fitted to the two rear wheels.

Pulling away and acceleration draws current from the batteries however when decelerating and braking the electric motors change their role to become alternators and recharge the batteries. The fuel cells provide continuous charge to the batteries. The harnessing of the kinetic energy, when decelerating, is a significant step in enhancing the energy efficiency of the truck; thereby achieving a very high degree in energy efficiency.

The performance of the driveline is more than equal to the rigours and demands of stop start operations and it has the operational range typical of distribution. The Hytruck C8HE will be the first distribution vehicle on the market that satisfies all the distribution demands without the noise pollution and harmful emissions.

The Hytruck C8HE is ideally suited to the needs of inner city and regional door to door distribution of goods. As the truck is based upon an existing platform the usual technical challenges have been solved with the result that the operating radius and the load capacity make it an attractive economic proposition. Hytruck is demonstrating that there are no technical barriers to achieving the goal of a climate friendly and environmentally neutral truck that conforms to the current market norms and will meet the expected future needs of the market.
